This 7-Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari also includes chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe national park, a grand tour of Lake Kivu and the Nyimirundi coffee island in Volcanoes national park.

This trip also offers an opportunity to visit Rwanda culture centers for an exclusive cultural experience to exploring the genocide memorial sites of Gisozi in Kigali and Murambi Genocide Memorial Site in and around Kigali. Also, expect a cultural visit to the Ibyiwacu cultural village to learn first-hand of the Banyarwanda culture as you interact with the locals.

Some of Gorilla Tracking Guidelines

  • Do not eat or smoke when with the gorillas or within a distance of 200 meters from the gorillas.
  • Do not get closer than 7 meters (21 feet) to the gorillas.
  • Do not use flash photography as they may scare the gorillas.
  • Do not make loud noises or move suddenly.
  • No one with any sort of disease or communicable disease (e.g Flu) is allowed in the park.
  • Always stay together in a tight group while with the gorillas, do not surround them.
  • No person under the age of 15 years is allowed to track gorillas

Day 1: Departure from Kigali to Nyungwe Forests

Our driver(s) will pick you up for your 6 days gorilla trekking safari trip from your hotel/ airport and we shall depart to Nyungwe forest national park. The journey to the northern part of the country takes you through the beautiful terraced hillsides that show much of Rwanda’s landscape.  Dinner and Overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge ( Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range), Gisakura Guest House (Basic).


Day 2: Day for Chimps Trekking | Canopy walk |Birding

After early morning breakfast, then we shall proceed to the Nyungwe forest headquarters for briefing about tracking chimps you will be briefed by the tour guide about the trekking.
The rangers know the best spots where you can easily track the chimpanzees. As you hike through the forest, you will come across other primates like monkeys, these will excite you as you get closer to the chimpanzees. After a wonderful time with the chimpanzees, you return for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, you go for a forest tree-canopy walk.


Day 3: Tour to Lake Kivu & Culture tour

You will have an early morning breakfast and after, will be ready to drive off to Gisenyi – Lake Kivu. En-route visit the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site and the King’s palace reaching Lake Kivu in the evening to relax along the lake shores. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel or Palm gardens resort.


Day 4: Boat Ride on Lake Kivu

After breakfast, we then embark on a boat ride along Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is the largest freshwater lake offering tourists an exclusive relaxing environment while in Rwanda. You will also tour Nyamirundi Island famously known for a fantastic coffee making. The interesting part here is that you will learn about how Rwanda coffee is made. Later return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.


Day 5: Ibyiwacu Cultural Tour 

After an early breakfast, you will enjoy a fantastic scenic drive to Volcanoes national park lunch at your hotel on arrival. In the afternoon we shall embark on a cultural visit to the Ibyiwacu cultural village you will learn and explore the richness of the Banyarwanda culture. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain gorilla view lodge or La Palme Hotel.


Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & the Twin Lakes Tour

After an early morning breakfast, we shall then head to the Kinigi head offices by 7:30 for your trekking briefing. With a tour guide, you will enter the rain forest in search of the mountain gorillas. Once you meet the ugly gentle giants, you are allowed to spend one hour with the gorillas then return to your lodge. In the afternoon we then head out for a tour the twin lake of Burera & Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at your lodge


Day 7: Depart for Kigali Historical Sites tour

After breakfast, we later drive back to Kigali for a grand city tour. Expect to tour historical places like the genocide memorial site, the national museum. After you will be transferred to your Hotel in Kigali or dropped off at the airport for your flight back home. End of the Safari
